Hey all, you surely will be happy to know that I am still alive and designing everyday! Yay me! Anyway, it’s been considerably to long since my last post, so, I’ll be compiling some projects that I’ve been working on and post them up. Some websites, some signs, some other junk, lots of stuff. Oh, and Nancy of the Layne Staley Fund, liked my portrait of Layne (see below…) and that made me happy.
Thursday liked my Thursday poster!
Posted in Posters, Thoughts on October 6, 2009 by imtheblacksheepI got a call from the promoter of the show last night saying the band wanted a few copies of the poster I had designed for their show last night. I was stoked to hear that. Thursday has been one of my favorite bands for a long long time. I was really bummed I was not able to got to the show though. I know they’ll be back again someday and hopefully will be fortunate enough to attend. (Oh, it was also the featured poster of the week in our local alternative news paper “The Stranger”. Yes!) I told them to contact me if they wanted it printed up. I’ve got my fingers crossed!

Layne Staley Poster
Posted in Posters, Thoughts on September 29, 2009 by imtheblacksheep
After seeing Alice In Chains at The Moore theater last week, I was inspired to dive deeper into the bands history. Having read quite a bit on Layne, I decided to make a portrait of him. I love the song “Get Born Again” and in a time for music where there is next to nothing new and good, it makes me think – if only Layne could be born again. That somehow the world could be blessed by someone with so much to offer. His story is tragic and depressing but hopefully not a loss. There is a fund for musicians in need of help with drug abuse called the Layne Staley Fund – http://www.laynestaleyfund.com/ – feel free to donate or buy something. I am going to offer the use of this poster to them after I finish typing. Maybe you can buy it form them?…
Gaslight Anthem
Posted in Thoughts on September 24, 2009 by imtheblacksheepSo the Gaslight Anthem show last night was great. They played a heartfelt performance without any props or lights or huge amps or anything else. It was them, some good songs, and a crowd of people. There was a good vibe in the room. I also got the chance to see the Loved Ones. Down a guitarist but still put on a good show. Off to see Alice In Chains tonight! I’ve been waiting too long for this…
Oh, and more cool design stuff in the works. A few identities and possibly some new CD layouts. Very exciting stuff!
Les Paul Dies…
Posted in Thoughts on August 14, 2009 by imtheblacksheep

Today is a sad day for anyone that has ever listened to a record or played a guitar. Which, is everyone. The great Les Paul died today from complications from pneumonia i heard. I think that’s what Gibson is saying anyway. I bums me out to know he’s gone. I never met him but I am directly effected daily by the things he pioneered. I love music and I love playing my bass and I would never be where I am if it weren’t for that man. So, perhaps a moment of silence is in order… ok. Good. I also bummed me out to see maybe 30 seconds about it on the news. There’s to much other bullshit they have to focus on. Ridiculous.
There is an obituary here at Rolling Stone that talks a bit about him and his life.

Gaslight Anthem – Show Poster

Here is a Poster I recently designed for the upcoming Gaslight Anthem show at the Showbox here in Seattle. It is also the first poster I’ve ever uploaded to gigposters.com! Yippie!
EDIT: After creating this poster, I found another – the official one – on Gig Posters. Created by the talented Jeffrey Everett and is for sale on his website here:http://www.eljefedesign.com/store/gaslighttour.html

OTLD New EP
Posted in Uncategorized on July 15, 2009 by imtheblacksheepThis is the limited edition packaging for On The Last Day’s recent EP “Make it Mean Something”. Available directly from the band only, though the other version is available for sale in stores, online, and iTunes.
This layout was intended to be simple and timeless. I chose to use black and white photo’s which I took while driving through Eastern Washington. I was really happy with the final product and is to this day, my favorite. The limited edition vinyl was also an exciting project to do (However, the manufacturing company fucked it up as the vinyl was intended to be white not black. and dicked us around for months trying to get the issue resolved. As you can see, it stayed black.)
4 panel “Eco” package, 8 Panel folded insert, and CD all produced through the wonderful people at OasisCD.com

My first CD
Posted in Music Packaging on July 15, 2009 by imtheblacksheepThis is the first CD layout I ever did that was professionally pressed & mass produced. I learned a lot from the experience and though I’m sure I would have done things a little differently now, I still enjoy it. Maybe it’s just the nostalgia…
My favorite part of this project is the disc (which I don’t have a good picture of yet). It has a gloss black print of the victorian pattern over a matt black surface.
